Piano / Violin Lessons for Young Children
Ages 3 year old or up in Mahwah, NJ
Your 3-year-old is ready for music.
Most teachers aren’t ready for them. I am.

Cristina is an excellent piano teacher who truly understands how to work with young children. She is patient, professional, and has a great way of keeping my 6-year-old focused and making progress, even on days when he’d rather be doing something else. We really appreciate the solid musical foundation she’s building.

Hi, I’m Cristina Huang
Hi, I’m Cristina Huang — a piano and violin teacher based in Mahwah, NJ, specializing in early childhood music education for children ages 3–7.
With over 15 years of teaching experience, I believe the early years are the most powerful window for musical development. Children at this age don’t just learn notes — they build listening skills, emotional expression, and a lifelong love for music.
My lessons are designed specifically for little learners. Through movement, games, and storytelling, every class feels like an adventure. Parents often tell me their child asks to practice before being reminded.
As a Steinway Educator Partner, NYU Master of Music , and a performing artist who has released albums and received a Global Music Award (Silver), I bring both professional excellence and genuine warmth to every lesson. I started playing piano and violin as a young child myself — music has been part of my whole life.
I’m also a mom. Having a child of my own has made me even more intentional about early childhood development. When you bring your child to me, I treat them the way I want my own child to be taught — with patience, creativity, and joy.

🎹 Ages 3 to 4
30 Mins
At ages 3 and 4, music should feel like play — not practice. Using a blend of the Suzuki and Kodály methods, every lesson is built around three core skills that set children up for lifelong musical success.
What we focus on:
- 🎵 Singing & Ear Training — Learning to recognize and match pitches through singing before reading a single note
- 🥁 Rhythm & Steady Beat — Both-hands rhythm exercises with a metronome to build timing and coordination from the very start
- 🎹 Piano Technique — Introduction to proper finger technique on the keys, taught in a way that feels natural and fun for little hands
🎹Ages 5 & Up
45 Mins / 60 Mins
Once children are ready to dive deeper, lessons become more structured — while still keeping the joy of music at the center. This is where real technique begins to take shape.
What we focus on:
- 🤲 Technique & Finger Training — Scales, arpeggios, and finger independence drills to build strength, control, and dexterity
- 💪 Arm & Elbow Use — Learning to use the weight of the whole arm for a fuller, more expressive sound — not just finger strength
- 🎭 Expressive Playing — Exploring dynamics, phrasing, legato, and staccato so children learn to connect emotionally with the music they play
- 🎼 Repertoire — Carefully chosen pieces that match each child’s level and personality, gradually increasing in challenge as they grow
- 👂 Listening & Music History — Studying recordings of great pianists alongside the stories behind the music — who composed it, when, and why — so children understand not just how to play, but what they’re playing

🎵 Music Lessons That Go Beyond Music
- Learning an instrument teaches children far more than how to play. Every lesson is an opportunity to build life skills that carry far beyond the piano bench.
- Through consistent practice and gentle challenges, my students develop:
- Focus & Attention — Learning to sit, listen, and concentrate in a world full of distractions
- Resilience — Understanding that making mistakes is part of the process, and trying again is always the answer
- Patience — Discovering that progress takes time, and that small steps lead to big results
- Self-Discipline — Building the habit of showing up, practicing, and following through
- Confidence — Feeling proud of what their own hands can create
